To adjust the check spring, use a slotted screwdriver. Put the screwdriver into the end of the lower (or rotary) tension post. Turn the screwdriver counterclockwise until the check spring moves off its post. Then, turn the post clockwise until the check spring touches the post then approximately 1/4 turn more.
