DTF Printing FAQs
Basic DTF printing supplies usually include a DTF printer, DTF ink, PET transfer film, hot melt adhesive powder, RIP software, a heat press, and compatible garments or blanks. Many shops also use curing equipment, cleaning supplies, and maintenance items to keep prints consistent and equipment running properly.
Common DTF mistakes include using the wrong heat press settings, applying too much or too little powder, poor artwork preparation, inconsistent curing, and skipping routine printer maintenance. Low-quality film, ink, or powder can also cause issues like weak adhesion, dull colors, cracking, or peeling after washing.
DTF can be more cost-effective in many cases because it works across a wider range of fabrics and does not require polyester-only blanks. However, the better option depends on your product mix, equipment setup, material costs, and production goals. Sublimation is often very efficient for polyester garments and hard goods, while DTF offers more flexibility for apparel decoration.
DTF transfers can be applied to many materials, including cotton, polyester, cotton-poly blends, tri-blends, and other common garment fabrics. This versatility is one of the biggest advantages of DTF printing for apparel decorators who need to print across different blank types.
