DTF Printing FAQs
To start DTF (Direct to Film) printing, you’ll need a DTF printer, DTF inks (CMYK + white), PET transfer film, DTF adhesive powder, a heat press, RIP software, and curing equipment such as a heat press or curing oven. Additional helpful tools include heat-resistant tape, a powder shaker, and cleaning supplies for printer maintenance.
White ink is essential in DTF printing because it acts as a base layer beneath the colors, allowing designs to appear vibrant and opaque on dark or colored fabrics. Without white ink, colors would look faded or transparent, especially on non-white garments.
Hot peel film can be peeled immediately after pressing while still hot, which speeds up production. Cold peel film requires the transfer to cool completely before peeling, but it can sometimes produce a more matte or durable finish. The choice depends on your workflow and desired result.
Peeling or poor adhesion can be caused by incorrect temperature, pressure, or pressing time, insufficient curing of the adhesive powder, or using incompatible materials. Make sure your heat press settings match the film and powder specifications, apply firm pressure, and ensure the adhesive is fully cured before pressing.
