Sublimation FAQs
Sublimation can be used to create a wide range of custom products, including t-shirts, mugs, tumblers, mouse pads, tote bags, pillows, coasters, ornaments, phone cases, keychains, puzzles, and other personalized gifts or promotional items. It works best on polyester fabrics and polymer-coated blanks designed for sublimation.
Basic sublimation supplies typically include a sublimation printer, sublimation ink, sublimation paper, a heat press, heat-resistant tape, butcher paper or protective paper, and compatible blanks such as shirts, mugs, or other coated items. Depending on the project, you may also use lint rollers, heat gloves, or pressing pillows for better results.
Sublimation works best on light-colored polyester fabrics or high-poly blends, as well as hard blanks that have a special polymer coating. Common sublimation blanks include polyester shirts, tote bags, mugs, tumblers, coasters, ornaments, mouse pads, and metal or MDF panels that are specifically labeled for sublimation use.
You should print on the coated bright white side of sublimation paper. The printable side is usually smoother, brighter, or marked by the manufacturer, while the back side may appear duller or have a logo pattern. Always check your paper instructions to confirm the correct print side before starting.
