EMC 10: Needle Bar Will Not Come Down to Sew

If the take-up lever is moving normally but the needle bar will not descend to begin sewing, there are several components on the Melco EMC 10 that should be inspected.

Check the Jump Stitch Lever

The first item to inspect is the Jump Stitch Lever, located on the left side of the needle case.

If the lever is engaged, the machine may prevent the needle bar from moving into the sewing position. Verify that the lever is in the correct operating position as outlined in the EMC 10 Operation Manual.

Inspect the Upper Dead Stop Clamp

Another possible cause is an improperly adjusted Upper Dead Stop Clamp.

Refer to the Head Timing section of the EMC 10 Operation Manual. The adjustment procedure can be found immediately after the Needle Depth adjustment instructions. If the clamp is out of adjustment, it can prevent the needle bar from traveling correctly during sewing.

Test the Reciprocator

The reciprocator is responsible for driving the needle bar assembly during operation.

To test it:

1. Engage a needle bar.
2. Gently pull the needle bar downward by hand.
3. The needle bar should lock into the down position.

If the needle bar does not lock into position, the reciprocator may be damaged and require repair or replacement.

Additional Recommendation

If the Jump Stitch Lever and Upper Dead Stop Clamp are adjusted correctly and the reciprocator fails the test, contact a qualified Melco technician or distributor for further diagnosis and service.

Proper operation of these components is essential for correct needle bar movement and stitch formation on the EMC 10.
